If you have a genuine leather or fabric bag, you can completely hand wash your bag. You are wondering how, right? Don’t worry, we will guide you step by step as the following:
1. Remove surface stains with alcohol.
For surface stains that cannot be scraped off with a cloth, like ink stains, rub the stains with an alcohol swab.
Many surface stains, like grease stains, will come off when you clean the entire surface of the bag with soap and water in later.
Dip a cotton ball in the alcohol, then rub the surface of the bag with cotton until the stain is gone. Focus on areas with only stains.
When finished, let the bag dry.
2. Remove deep stains with lemon and toothpaste
When you are dealing with a stain that has been placed deep into the material of your bag, use a mixture made from toothpaste and lemon juice.
Deep stains can include blood, wine, and a lot of food or drinks that have stains.
Combine one part toothpaste and one part lemon juice, mix until a thick mixture. Apply a large amount of this mixture to the colored area of the bag and let it rest for 10 minutes.
After the mixture has had a chance to soak, wipe it off with a clean, dry rag.
3. Mixing a mild soap solution
Combine 2 cups (500 ml) of warm water with just a few drops of soap solution.
This soap solution can be used to clean mild dirt from a leather bag, or from a bag with leather material, as often as once a week.
Using the soap as mild as possible to minimize the risk of dehydration or damaging the leather.
4. Use a soft cloth to gently scrub the bag
Soak a soft, clean cloth in soapy water. Wring out excess moisture, then gently wipe away any dirt and grime from the bags.
Use this solution to clean the outside and inside of the bag. Make sure everything in the bag is removed before you clean the inside.
Only allow the leather parts of the bag to get moisture. Do not soak or submerge them.
5. Dry cleaning the leather bags
Use a soft dry cloth to gently wipe the surface of the bag while it is still damp. Continue polishing until the surface feels dry.
After drying the bag with a cloth, allow it to continue drying in the air for an hour or so, especially if you clean the inside. The inside of the bag should be thoroughly dry before you return anything to it.
6. Refresh leather areas using a mixture of vinegar and flaxseed oil
To prevent parts of the bag’s skin from drying and cracking, you should have the solution ready to wipe your bag whenever it becomes dirty. A cleansing mix that includes white vinegar and flaxseed oil.
Mix one part distilled white vinegar with two parts flaxseed oil. Dip a soft, clean cloth in this solution and rub a large amount over the entire surface of the leather bag. Scrub stains gently, with circular polishing motion.
Allow the solution to soak into the leather for 15 minutes.
After the solutions have been soaked, wipe the leather of the bag with a clean, dry cloth.
